About us

The National Treasury Department of Kenya.

The National Treasury of Kenya operates as a governmental department tasked with crucial responsibilities concerning the country’s economic policies, annual budget preparation, and the management of public finances at the national level. It operates under the supervision of the Cabinet Secretary for Finance.

Its authority stems from several key sources, including the Constitution of 2010 (Article 225), the Public Finance Management Act of 2012 (section 12), and Executive Order No. 2 of 2013. Additionally, The National Treasury collaborates with any legislative measures that Parliament may enact or revise periodically, ensuring its ongoing alignment with evolving governmental frameworks and regulations.

Kenya Forest Service

The Kenya Forest Service functions as a governmental agency of Kenya, established by the Forest Act of 2005 to succeed the former Forest Department. Oversight of the Kenya Forest Service is entrusted to the Board of the Kenya Forest Service.

Previously, the Forest Department relied heavily on forest revenues for support, resulting in chronic underfunding. However, the enactment of the 2005 Forest Act introduced changes, including the establishment of special funds such as the Water Towers Conservation Fund and the Mau Rehabilitation Trust Fund. These funds allocate resources for initiatives like forest rehabilitation, addressing past challenges of underfunding.

As of 2003, Kenya boasted approximately 1.57 million hectares of gazetted forest areas.
